Practical Philosophy - 8 ---------------------------------------- "PEAK" ------------ It's generally seen that after reaching a peak, What follows is the big corrective squeak, Like the worm that falls out of a bird's beak, Leaving one bedazzled and unable to speak ! ---------------------- "PROFOUND" -------------------- The fall from the top happens with no sound, The impact it creates is alarmingly profound, It takes a while to realise the truth on the ground, Neither early solace nor solution can be found. --------------------- "STUMP" ------------- Life at times tends to put one under the pump, At such times, it's best to avoid a sudden jump, As that would also enable fate to effect a stump, One could then be reeling with a bruise or bump. --------------------- "CAKE" ----------- As a child I would watch my mom bake a cake, She would make it plain vanilla for my sake, In later life too, ingredients which appear as fake, I have deemed it prudent to avoid or forsake. -------------------- "METTLE" --------------- When things go wrong, one can judge one's mettle, Is it not interesting to see the whistle of a kettle ? When the heat of the content disturbs its fettle, Not allowing it to appear as if in a smooth settle. -------------------- "FLOW" ------------ Life is indeed best when you go with the flow, To understand this, I have been a trifle slow, In the process, I've been given many a blow, Inspite of all this, my mien still has a glow ! ---------------------- "SCRABBLE" ------------------- The brain tries many tricks while playing scrabble, With myriad tiny words, we are forced to dabble, If X, Q, J and V are in hand, it is quite a gamble, But you will not let go that easily even in a trample. ---------------------- "SLATE" ------------ Students of today would be baffled to see a slate, In the times ahead, no house may have a gate, But surely old age will bless a few with a bald pate, Whatever we do now will certainly go out of date. --------------------
